Mary Lister (1920 - 2013)

Mary, with her family of three children, came to Lichfield in the early 1960s when her husband, Devid, became Headmaster of the W. R. Wheway School in Walsall which later became Forest Comprehensive School. Their arrival was in time to provide early support for the Civic Society following our foundation in February 1961.

Mary's teaching career started during the War and she resumed it in Lichfield as her family matured, eventually retiring from her post in the Willows Primary School. From 1977 until 1979 David the Civic Society's Treasurer and in 1992 Mary was appointed President, serving in that office until February 2004. She brought to that position dedication, a keen intellect, open mindedness and diligence; for all of which she will long be remembered.

Mary will be sadly missed by her family and friends, members of our Society and of the many other organisations with which she had been involved.
