Ivor Graham Mitchell

Ivor, through his love and association with the City of Lichfield became a long standing member of the Lichfield Civic Society, a membership that was to last 35 years. During those years he devoted a great deal of his time and energies to promoting the aims an objects of our Society for the benefit of our City and its people; a personal objective that he certainly achieved. In 1980 he joined the committee and became Chairman, a post he relinquished in 1983 when he was elected Vice-Chairman. He continued to serve on the committee until 2006.

Ivor was a founder trustee of the Darwin Walk that was established in 1986 by a group of Society members. Reference to the Society's archives show that Ivor was a regular contributor to our Newsletter where his command of the English language and his humour shone through.

Ivor's contribution to the work of our Society cannot be underestimated - and we are fortunate to have had this long standing member. He will be missed by all.

[Postscript]

On 31st October, 2016 some 19 members of the Society and members of the Darwin Walk Trust met at Elmhurst, by the orchard on the route of the Darwin Walk, to unveil a bench in memory of Ivor Mitchell.

Our Chairman, John Thompson, gave an eloquent outline of Ivor's life, his contribution to the Society and his lifelong work benefitting children with special needs.
